Pepa Gonzalez and her newborn Matthew

Pepa Gonzalez, the founder of Pepa London, started to put together a list of newborn essentials before the arrival of her son Matthew. This was in March 2020, when all the shops closed and the first lockdown began. So she went online and found everything she needed, including items from small boutique brands that are functional, but also beautiful and made to the highest quality. So if, like her, you are getting organised before welcoming a newborn into this world and are starting to shop for essentials, you can find Pepa’s list below.

Keeping your newborn warm and comfortable is important, and the right clothing is key. From onesies and bodysuits, to hats, mittens, and socks, this list has everything you need to make sure your baby is dressed for comfort and style.

  • 8 onesies: Soft and stretchy, they come in a variety of styles and colours, and will become the staple of your baby's wardrobe. Check our newborn onesies and baby grows.
  • 8 bodysuits: Bodysuits are closer to the body than onesies and can be easily layered for warmth.
  • 3 outfits: Whether you're looking for an outfit for a special occasion, or a comfortable outfit for everyday use, our selection of newborn first outfits has something for everyone. You can also check our tops and bloomers and pants.
  • 3 swaddles: These wraps or thin blankets will help soothe your newborn.
  • 3 sleeping bags: When your baby starts to roll over, you should stop using swaddles and move to sleeping bags.
  • 7 pairs of socks: Keep your baby's toes warm with cosy socks or tights. You can also opt for cute little booties.
  • 2-3 newborn hats: Keep your little one's head warm with a soft, breathable newborn hat.
  • 2-3 pairs of mittens: To prevent scratching, newborn mittens are essential.
  • 1 jacket: When the weather turns chilly, a lightweight jacket or bunting will keep your baby warm.

If you change your newborn 2 to 4 times a day, you should have everything you need in the list above. The next step for you is to know how to wash baby clothes, but don’t you worry, we have you covered with this too.
